The last video rental store on the Upper West Side
Here is where you can learn about and view the finished documentary of the Movie Place and it’s owner Gary Dennis. I documented the store in 2006 for a one minute film while in Grad School and finally completed the extended version in late 2023.
The Movie place was one of the last local video VHS and DVD rental stores in Manhattan and was located on the Upper West Side for over a decade. If you were fortunate enough to browse for your videos when Gary was there you might have ended up in a very memorable discussion of New York architectural history and/or deep thinking Hollywood Movie Lore.
